iVillage is concerned about the recent number of celebrity women appearing soon after the birth of a child, showing how they have regained their “bikini body.”
All of a sudden, it seems that we can’t walk down a supermarket aisle without some famous new mother flashing her abs.
So why the concern? They say it’s because the articles are not honest.
The magazines are misleading. Kardashian’s cover reads “How I lost 33 pounds! My super-fast weight loss, flat stomach in days, new secret slim-down shake…”
It’s not just a miracle shake?
Her pregnancy weight vanished, and if you buy this magazine, yours can too! Never mind that you don’t have a private trainer, personal nutritionist, full-time baby nurse/nanny or discreet cosmetic surgeon.
Well, that’s a good point. It’s one thing if your job in life is getting your body into shape, and you have unlimited resources to assist you.
And it’s quite another thing if you have to do it all on your own, with many other obligations in life.
But it goes beyond that. The weight loss field is full of unrealistic expectations and unfulfilled promises. This is just another example of a standard that is too high to meet and too difficult to reach.
It’s designed to set you up for failure.
But not only that, many of the articles and photos are just plain dishonest.
As the Huffington Post notesOK! hawks “Kourtney’s Body After Baby Exclusive” on its cover–but Kourtney Kardashian says she never spoke to the magazine or posed for the heavily Photoshopped photo.
As the side-by-side photos show, OK! lopped off Kourtney’s stomach and replaced her face with a slimmer one to illustrate her speedy weight loss.
“They doctored and Photoshopped my body to make it look like I have already lost all the weight, which I have not…”
You used to hear people say, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” But these days, with photoshop and special effects and fabricated stories, you can’t even believe a photograph.
So what should you do? Get yourself educated. Make a reasonable plan with achievable goals. And then put on your blinders. Don’t let others lead you astray with false promises and nonsense.
